महत्व · Significance
Sankashti Chaturthi falls on the fourth tithi of the waning fortnight and is kept for Bhagwan Ganesh, the remover of obstacles. The name itself means deliverance from difficulty.
The fast is unusual in ending with the moon rather than the sun: it is broken only after moonrise and after arghya has been offered, so the moonrise time matters as much as the tithi.
Angarki Chaturthi, when the day falls on a Tuesday, is considered the most powerful of the year.
पूजा विधि · How it is kept
- Bathe and take the sankalp in the morning.
- Worship Bhagwan Ganesh with durva grass, red flowers and modak.
- Chant the Ganesh Atharvashirsha or Om Gam Ganapataye Namah.
- Keep the fast through the day.
- Offer arghya to the moon after moonrise, then break the fast.
