महत्व · Significance
Pradosh Vrat is kept on the thirteenth tithi of each fortnight and is dedicated to Bhagwan Shiv. What sets it apart from other vrats is its hour: the worship belongs to pradosh kaal, roughly the ninety minutes around sunset.
That timing is the whole observance. A Pradosh puja performed at noon is simply not Pradosh, which is why the pradosh kaal window is published for each occurrence rather than assumed.
The vrat takes the name of the weekday it falls on — Som Pradosh on a Monday, Shani Pradosh on a Saturday — and each is held to carry its own particular merit.
पूजा विधि · How it is kept
- Bathe and keep a light fast through the day.
- Begin the puja in pradosh kaal, the window around sunset.
- Perform abhishek of the Shivling with water, milk, honey and curd.
- Offer bel patra, dhatura and white flowers.
- Chant Om Namah Shivaya, and read the Pradosh Vrat katha.
