महत्व · Significance
Masik Shivratri comes on the fourteenth tithi of the waning fortnight, every month. It is the monthly form of the observance that reaches its greatest expression once a year at Maha Shivratri.
The worship belongs to the night. Devotees keep a vigil and perform abhishek through the four praharas, the watches into which the night is divided.
पूजा विधि · How it is kept
- Keep a fast through the day.
- Perform abhishek of the Shivling at night with water, milk and honey.
- Offer bel patra, which is held to be dear to Bhagwan Shiv.
- Chant Om Namah Shivaya or the Mahamrityunjaya mantra.
- Keep the night vigil if you are able to.
